New in Theaters: Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman”, “The Meg”, and “Slender Man”

Don’t forget Dog Days.  It opened on Wednesday. Enjoy! \m/

1.  Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman  (R)  Trailer

Denzel Washington’s son . . . John David Washington . . . plays an African American police officer who infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan and becomes the head of a local Colorado chapter in the ’70s.  It’s based on the real life of Detective Ron Stallworth.

Adam Driver plays the white undercover cop he sent to attend the actual meetings for him and Topher Grace is the Klan’s “Grand Wizard,” David Duke.  The rest of the cast includes Alec Baldwin, and Corey Hawkins from “Straight Outta Compton” and “24: Legacy” as civil rights leader Kwame Ture.

2.  The Meg  (PG-13)  Trailer

Jason Statham from the “Expendables” movies stars in this giant prehistoric shark movie.  He plays an expert deep sea rescue diver recruited to rescue the crew of a sub that’s been attacked by a 75-foot long extinct shark called a Megalodon.

Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Masi Oka from “Heroes”, and Bingbing Li from “Resident Evil: Retribution” are also in it.

3.  Slender Man  (PG-13)  Trailer

Joey King from “The Conjuring” stars in this horror movie about a group of friends who set out to prove they don’t believe in the myth of Slender Man and end up becoming his targets after a ritual summons him and they start disappearing one by one.

Horror lore surrounding the character started hitting the internet in 2014 after the news got out about an attempted murder in Wisconsin where two 12-year-old girls stabbed a classmate 19 times.  After they were caught, the kids claimed that they were trying to protect their families from being killed by something they called Slender Man.

Out of respect for the victim’s family, theaters in the Milwaukee area will NOT be showing this movie.

4.  Dog Days  (PG)  Trailer  (Opened Wednesday)

Vanessa Hudgens, Nina Dobrev, Eva Longoria, Adam Pally, Rob Corddry, and Finn Wolfhard from “Stranger Things” star in this ensemble comedy about a bunch of dog owners whose lives somehow intersect because of their pets.
